Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Online Caption Writing Assistant to join our dynamic content accessibility team. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for creating, editing, and synchronizing captions and subtitles for a wide range of video content, ensuring accuracy, readability, and adherence to accessibility standards. This position supports our mission to make our vast library of entertainment and informational content enjoyable and accessible to all audiences. The ideal candidate will possess excellent grammar and linguistic skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for storytelling and media accessibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe audio content accurately and create synchronized captions and subtitles for various video formats.
- Edit existing captions for grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, punctuation, and proper formatting.
- Ensure captions adhere to established style guides, linguistic standards, and accessibility regulations (e.g., ADA, FCC guidelines).
- Time and synchronize captions precisely with on-screen audio and video, managing overlapping dialogue and speaker identification.
- Review and quality-check caption files to ensure high levels of accuracy and readability.
- Collaborate with content producers and editors to resolve any captioning issues or discrepancies.
- Manage multiple captioning projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Stay updated on best practices and emerging technologies in captioning and accessibility services.
Required Skills
- Exceptional written English skills, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Proven ability to transcribe audio accurately and efficiently.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in using word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
- Familiarity with various media file formats.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Previous experience in captioning, transcription, or a similar role within the media industry.
- Familiarity with captioning software or tools (e.g., Rev, Trint, Amara).
- Basic understanding of accessibility guidelines for digital media (e.g., WCAG).
- Experience working with diverse content genres (documentaries, drama, news, etc.).
